I had a double header this week with two shows in a row which is why I’m a little late on updated the blog. This past Thursday was Middle Class Rut at Pop’s which is always an interesting place to see a gig. For this show in particular they had half the club draped off and the bands were set up on the far side of the stage with no barricades separating the crowd from the artists. This presented some challenges from a photography stand point but I was completely content with working through them, and I had a goal to at least walk away with a handful of good shots. I had been looking forward to seeing this show all month being that I had never been able to photography Middle Class Rut or catch much of their set the last two times they came through town. Vocalist/guitarist Zack Lopez and drummer/vocalist Sean Stockham put on a performance packed full of crunching guitar riffs, booming drum beats, and vocals that were filled with aggressively piercing high pitched bellows that made the crowd actively jam to each song in the set. My two surprises of the night were hearing Middle Class Rut cover Tom Petty’s “I Need To Know” and catching opening act American Fangs. It is always nice to be introduced to a band in a live setting that you’ve never heard before that offers an entertaining set that leads perfectly into the main act. I think the images I captured help display the emotion that both acts offered to the crowd, enjoy the pics!
