This past Wednesday for the first time I got to photograph at River City Casino, which turned out to be a great place to see a show. The ballroom has high ceilings, a built in stage, and risers in the back which really makes the room feel like a theatre as opposed to a standard convention space. It was also nice to see the venue filled with a crowd that appeared to be anxious to see an artist that for lack of better terms has passed their time in the spot light. As Pat Benatar and her band, which included husband/guitarist Neil Giraldo, took stage the crowd stood up and cheered them on as they ripped into their fist song. As Pat approached the mic and sang her first note it was evident her powerful vocals were just as clear and full as they were on the recordings of some of her biggest hits that I’ve heard on the radio for so many years. Her husband also held his own on the guitar ripping into rock solos that he played with ease on a bright red vintage hollow body Guild that I would love to get my hands on. Unfortunately after the first three songs I was escorted out of the theatre which is standard protocol and I didn’t get to see the rest of the show, but from what I was able to catch it appeared the crowd experienced a great evening of live music.
