The Lumineers at Chaifetz Arena – October 4th, 2013

Let me first start by saying that the few images at the beginning of this slide show are only a portion of what I shot last night.  I covered the show for 1057 The Point and due to a release from the band the only place you can view them is at this link: http://www.1057thepoint.com/PhotoPages/Photos.aspx?AlbumID=143295.

Now that is out of the way.  I have to say I don’t have much to discuss regarding last night’s show.  I missed the first band but caught Dr. Dog and The Lumineers who were both very sonically tight bands.  With the venue being on Saint Louis Universities campus and the success of The Lumineers hit “Ho Hey” I noticed that the crowd mostly consisted of females.  This was a very “chickcentric” crowd and as soon as The Lumineers hit the stage it was a loud roar of high pitched screams.  The one thing I did find interesting though was before the lead vocalist went into their hit song, which was only four songs into their set, he requested that everyone put their phones away and just enjoy the experience of the song.  I found this admirable and refreshing to see at a show.

Other than the brief exposure I had of The Lumineers set I’ll have to say Dr. Dog really sparked my interest.  I can’t really pinpoint their sound at this moment, never the less it is a band I’ll be previewing tunes from in the near future.  The only other thing I can say about the night is that it was a nice evening photographing at Chaifetz Arena and more people should check out shows that comes to this venue.  It is larger than the Pageant but still has an intimate feel with pretty much any seat in the house being a good spot to see the show from.
