Going into the show last night I knew two things would be true:
- I would feel old around a bunch of 20 something hipsters
- PBR would be the beer of choice for most of the crowd
What I didn’t expect to find was a new band that would impress me. The show opened with White Denim who played a really strong set and kept the crowds attention. There set was a lot of fun to watch and what I found most entertaining is that all the band members really looked like they were having fun, often engaging with each other during the set with a smile or a nod. It’s nice to see a group of musicians who are obviously making music in a collective effort. They actually led into Tame Impala perfectly.
It’s always a great time to see a band you’ve never seen before at a show that is obviously filled with fans who are very into them. As soon as the Tame Impala took stage the crowd exploded and to my surprise the band had this awesomely psychedelic sound that reminded me of The Black Angels with maybe a bit more of a Pop influence. In fact this was the first time I clapped from the photo pit after a bands first song, I will defiantly be checking this bands catalog out and looking forward to the next time they come through town.
