Last night I had a great time being introduced to a side project of a frontman that I’ve been following since I was 15 years old. The frontman I’m referring to is none other than Chino Moreno of the Deftones, and last night you could really tell that he was enjoying performing for an intimate crowd at Pop’s Night Club. Not knowing what to expect and really only hearing about 8 tracks from one of Crosses EP’s, I was very excited to see what this bands set would be like. To be honest it was kind of like a more grove oriented or electronic version of the Deftones, the music wasn’t as hard edged but was still full of energy. Chino is one of those frontman that just loves to move around and get a rise out of the crowd. From a photographers standpoint it was a very fun shoot to try and capture an image of Chino as he hopped around the stage, although I would have killed from some better lighting. I still feel good with what I walked away with and this was defiantly one to cross off of my bucket list. Next to Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam, Chino and the Deftones have been the one other band that I’ve followed consistently through their entire career. As a musician, both of these bands have affect the way I compose music and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity that I was given last night.
