1057 The Point HO HO Show #4 with Blue October at The Pageant – December 13th, 2014

This was the 4th Ho Ho Show of 2014 which featured Blue October, and here are a few points I have to make after seeing them.

  1. This band is a magnet for females, the bulk of the crowd consisted of women ranging from their 20’s to their mid 30’s.
  2. This was apparently a family friendly rock show as I saw many parents with their teenager in the crowd.
  3. Vocalist Justin Furstenfeld has had extreme drug or depression problems and brought up overcoming his issues throughout the entire show…boo hoo, you’re a vocalist in a rock band doesn’t that go along with the stick?
  4. I was not a fan of the repeated chunky guitar riff nature of their songs but many people are, as the room was far from empty.
  5. I don’t get this band at all.

    1. Thanka for the compliment Amy, I appreciate it! I actually only pointed out Justin’s mentioning of his soberity to get a reaction on this post and it worked. ;-). I will have to give them a closer listen and dig deeper in their catalog, thanks again for your support!

  1. You may not “get” this band but for those of us that do, it’s very special. If you couldn’t feel the energy in that room then I feel sorry for you. It’s not for EVERYONE but we, the hardcore fans, have been there through Justin’s journey and we are very proud of him. He’s extremely talented. You don’t have to like them. It’s ok. You probably like Nickelback. 😉

    1. Jenn I’m glad you enjoy this band and I never mean to offend, but I found this exprerience similiar to when I photographed Nickleback. Funny you mention that band as well because I can’t stand them either.

  2. This band has managed to stay around and together because justin writes music from the soul ! His music has meaning and depth to it ! It’s am art of expression that captures your heart ! We love him and all the members ! For you to say boo hoo is a slap in the face to everyone that struggles with addiction or depression ! You are exactly what’s wrong with this world !!

  3. Thanks for the great pics! I’m sorry you don’t get this band’s music, but it’s not for everyone (and that’s okay). If you want to understand them more, I would suggest listening to all their albums, in order. You can definitely get a feel for the journey they’ve gone through, and a lot of people identify with their music at some point in their life (because we all have rough spots). Their new album is a lot more uplifting and focused on the positives in life rather than the negatives. And yep, the “chunky guitar riffs” are a lot of fun for the Blue October crowd, not to mention the violin solos (which you’ll find more of in older songs)!!

  4. Ooh my goodness this conversation is awesome and the whole reason I started this blog, conversing about music! I will be honest with everyone right now as I did this as an experiment. I was a little more honest with my thoughts on this show to stir some emotion up out there and get people to engage on the blog, and obviously it worked. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts, comments, and feelings regarding this band and the show.

Thank you everyone, I’m loving the interaction this post has generated. I appreciate you all!
