G Love & Special Sauce at The Duck Room – August 5th, 2015

Last week I found myself at the Duck Room for an amazing evening with G Love & Special Sauce.  I’m not sure how many people that follow my blog are young enough to have lived through the 90’s music scene, but if you were then you have definitely heard of G Love.  One of my favorite party songs from back in the day was “Cold Beverages”, which I’ve found to be a staple on everyone’s party playlist who is now within the age group of 35 – 45.  G Love has this unique quality of mixing funk, groove, jazz, and rock with a subtle touch of hip-hop.  The crowd that evening were so stoked to see him in a small venue and to catch a show where it was an “evening with”, which included no opening act.  For those of you that don’t know, G Love was a huge staple for the festival scene, where basically anything from a Lollapalooza to a Beale Street Music Festival most likely included him on the line up between the years of 1994 – 2010.  His set was an energy fueled groove ride that completely had the crowd going nuts.  Bottom line if you like funk influenced music, check out G Love’s catalog and do yourself a favor and go see him live!

    1. Sahara, it was pretty awesome to see how much of a following he still has. Like you, I too had not thought of him for years but man can that dude put on a live show! Hopefully he starts popping back up here and there, and if you get a chance to see him live I guarantee you will love it. It really made me miss the excitement of the ’90’s when music just had that intense magical quality that in my opinion has been lacking at times in recent years throughout many genres.
