Last week I had the opportunity to cover a show at the Pageant that was so unique I can honestly say it was something I have never experienced before. Gogol Bordello came through St. Louis to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the bands 2005 release “Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike”. I had never heard the term gypsy punk before and really didn’t know what to expect. The only way I can sum up what this style of music was, would be to classify it as “the sound of The Doors “Whiskey Bar” meets Modest Mouse”. Please feel free to look them up and articulate a better explanation for Gogol Bordello. It was original, it was exciting, articulate, and at times a punch in the face. I admire the originality and integrity of this act, which came out in 1999, because they represent something that when experienced live delivers something that most bands hope to achieve. This was such a fun show and will totally make it on my Top 10 Shows of 2015 list!
