Mumford and Sons @ Scottrade Center – April 16th, 2016

So this was a huge bucket list show for me. Me and my wife collectively fell in love with this band together, traveled to see them at Memphis in May in 2011, and celebrate their entire catalog! Like many Americans we are fans of Mumford and it was exciting to see them come through town to play to a packed house in the STL. From the first song they played you could tell the crowd was in for a treat, the set list was equally portioned to include song of the “new” electric version of Mumford as well as including the more folk/acoustic influenced songs that made us all fall in love with the power of their music. The band was tight, emotionally vested, and serious about the fan experience. In fact Marcus Mumford got some bunk press because he told the crowd who was chanting “Go Blues” to “Shut the fuck up” and that “you’re not at a fucking hockey game”. To be honest I support Marcus. This was happening during a time in the set where the band was trying to do an acoustic and intimate song acapella style, all around one microphone…in a huge arena. Sorry d-bag sports fans, you are at a concert, and if you are a fan you should respect the band trying to do something special for the crowd. In other words don’t fuck with Mumford when they are doing their thing.

    1. You know, now that you mention it I think I too remember seeing some story about that in my news feed. I would assume that was all speculation since they had such a long break in between albums. They were very much in full swing at Scottrade, and appeared very happy to be playing together. If you get a chance to see them, do it. The sound they have live is some how more powerful than their recordings.

      1. I would love to see them – I’m living in Seattle now, away from the Lou, and there’s a good chance they’d breeze through. Thanks for the reccommendation.
