This was yet another night that made me feel a little old. I get so busy during the week and often forget to do research before a show. Leading up to the day of Roman vs Fousey I thought I was covering some emo/pop front-man duo doing some kind of stripped down acoustic tour…I couldn’t have been more mistaken.
Roman and Fousey are actually huge internet video stars with millions of followers on YouTube. They are know for video pranks and apparently are huge with middle school to early high school aged kids. The crowd was filled with many parents and high pitched squeals of anticipation. I got to cover the first 10 minutes of their performance, and it was pretty unique. Roman and Fousey had a wheel type digital display screen that gave them random challenges to do, and each of them won points based on the crowds reaction. This is definitely a big deal for the youngsters, and it reminded me of something you’d see on Nickelodeon back in the mid 90’s. It was fun to see the venue packed with kids, and it was awesome to witness a very engaging/kid friendly event happening at one of the best rock venues in town.
